Is studying abroad really worth it?

Hello dear readers! After a whole month without a blog post from us (truly sorry for that), we are finally back with another one. Both of us just graduated high school a few months back and we’re considering on where to pursue our college/university studies. Should we just do it here or venture into the world? Here are our thoughts on it.

Personally, my dream since I was young was to study abroad. I wanted to go to Glasgow, actually. It was mainly because my mother studied in Cardiff and I wanted to follow in her footsteps 😅 Okay, personal bias aside, I think studying abroad is worth it (provided you are financially able for it). You get loads of benefits from it, such as making new friends outside of your home country. If you study in a non-English speaking country, a new language awaits you! For a language lover like me, this is always a fun opportunity. Of course, you get to gain experience and learn the cultures of people from around the world if you study abroad. It may sound a little overwhelming at first but nothing extraordinary comes out from your comfort zone, right? 😉

Actually it was pretty similar for me too. I really wanted to further my studies overseas. By doing this, we get exposure on the culture of other countries because different countries have their own culture. Also, we will learn to be independent as we will not have our parents to rely on when we go abroad. However, certain aspects of studying abroad has to be taken into account as well as it is quite pricey depending on the country we want to go to. In that case, we can choose to do a twinning programme with the local private universities here as we will get to experience both studying in our home country as well as abroad. I would totally support the idea of studying abroad too! :)

Counter-thoughts

While studying abroad might seem like a dream come true for the most of us, it could be a nightmare for the others. If you’re the type of person who gets homesick easily, we don’t suggest studying abroad. Financial responsibilities have to be taken into account too, especially if you aren’t a scholar. Some people don’t adapt to change easily and might get what is called a “culture shock” so if you find yourself in that crowd, perhaps reconsider studying abroad.

The verdict

Yes! We think you should study abroad if you are given the opportunity to do so! All things considered, studying abroad is worth it. Of course, this is not the same for everyone so be sure to do your research before making a huge decision. We wish you all the best! 💞
